Over all, Artemis is a very closed off person. She isn’t exactly mean or rude, but she can be to a point. She is very indifferent to most people and she tends to dislike them without a shadow of a doubt; that is not to say she isn’t social, she is. You just have to look past the exterior and into what is really there. She keeps herself closed off from the world, except for two people: her cousin and her twin brother. Between the two of them, she figures that she has enough friends to last her for a lifetime. Why would she need any others?
When set in a situation that she is uncomfortable with, she will either stick close to her twin or her cousin and if neither of them are handy? She’ll sit there and play with a knife that she just so happens to be carrying. Why? Because she can and because she’s uncomfortable, so it’s a dead giveaway as a start off. She isn’t very fond of large crowds of people and in general, she tends to avoid them. Most of her shopping is down over the internet or anywhere that she can avoid people.
However, beneath the rough, unpolished emotions and personality, she has a soft, loving heart. She will do anything in the world to protect the people that she loves even if it means dying, that is her one greatest weakness. When Artemis gives her loyalty and love to someone, it is done. Over with. She has given it to them for life unless they manage to screw up in a major way. She gives one chance when it comes to her friendship and her trust, however, once someone breaks that trust it is impossible to regain. She refuses to trust someone who betrayed her and also in general, refuses to trust most people.
Generally speaking, she can be rude, abrasive, and straight up unpleasant to most people. Take a swing at her and you can bet not only will she swing back, it will hurt and leave a mark that’s lasting for quite sometime.

Artemis is quite capable in the use of a bow and arrow, hand to hand combat, knife throwing, and guns. Most of the time, she has no issue reading people and she can almost bullshit her way through anything. (However if faced off against her twin or her cousin, Reave? Not so much.) Beyond that, she can easily blend in with a crowd; tug on a baseball hat, a hoody and she’s another nondescript person amongst the masses. She is quite capable of tying a cherry stem into a knot with her tongue and unwrapping a starburst with her mouth, however, she is completely indifferent to this fact.

Artemis and Apollo McCarthy were born on March 23rd, 1984 to Aaron and Michaela McCarthy. Artemis came out first, five full minutes before her twin brother, Apollo. It couldn’t be more obvious that the two of them were as different as night and day. Artemis was not a happy camper to be taken out of her nice, warm place and to be whacked on the butt by a doctor just did not brighten her day any. In fact, it was hard for the doctors to get her to hold still to get her dressed and fuss with her head full of black hair to get a picture of her.
As she got older, her hair eventually lightened from black to a brown. Later it was said to be closer to auburn than anything else, since there happened to be ginger streaks through her brown hair. Above anything, it was noted by the parents that Artemis and Apollo were inseparable. They were ready made best friends, without any of the awkwardness of first meeting people.
The twins really didn’t want for anything, they weren’t spoiled exactly but they were happy and content with their lives. After all, what child wouldn’t be? Artemis in particular was quite happy with her life and later, it was found out that she took up track and field simply because she was bored. In high school, she joined the Archery club because she wanted to take a more active role in certain things. However, in seventh grade, she met the girl that was to be her best friend for the remainder of their lives.
Cynthia was everything that anyone could want in a best friend; she was attentive, sweet, loving, kind, and in general, just a good person. Artemis was the exact opposite of her and often came off as abrasive. How and why the two became friends? No one ever guessed. It was as if the age old saying that opposites attract became very true. The two, like Artemis and her twin, were inseparable. When Artemis joined Archery Club in high school? Cynthia was right there with her and when she took up track and field, her best friend was often in the stands cheering for her as she ran.
Together, Cynthia, Artemis, and Apollo were just three peas in a pod. There was no awkward third wheel feelings, nothing. Cynthia became like another member of the McCarthy family in a sense, simply because she always spent so much time over at the McCarthy’s.
Together, they applied for college and the three went off to school after graduating high school. Luckily, they had been accepted into the same school. The three of them standing in the same building, but in different dorms for the boys. Cynthia and Artemis shared a dorm room since really, they knew that they could live with each other before they could anyone else.
However, as college progressed things began to change for them. Cynthia got a boyfriend while Artemis and Apollo, willingly, took the back burner to that shiny, new relationship. However, Cindy was not one to exclude her friends from anything and she often tried to set the two of them up on dates. It usually worked well for Apollo, but since Artemis wasn’t overly fond of people? It didn’t work as well for her. So eventually, Cindy gave up trying to find someone for Artemis and settled into knowing that she would always be there as a friend and everything else.
As the relationship progressed, things began to seem a little funny. It wasn’t until Artemis was on her way back from a late night coffee run, since she had finals the next day and she wanted to study, that she heard the screams. By the time she got back to the dorm room, the campus security had roped everything off. All over the room there were bloody handprints and signs that indicated ‘Satanic rituals’ according to the police. They questioned Artemis and Apollo extensively, since Cindy’s boyfriend Derek had disappeared.
Distraught by the loss of her best friend, Artemis called the only person that she knew would believe her: their cousin, Leonidas McCarthy. After explaining the situation, he told her he’d call her right back and hung up. Waiting on his phone call, Artemis sat calmly in her brother’s dorm room since she wasn’t allowed at hers and received a phone call not from her cousin but from his friend, Travis Wilson. The two talked it out and he arrived not even two days later on the scene to check things out; between the three of them, they tracked what had killed Cindy and found out that her boyfriend had been possessed by a demon. It wasn’t long afterwards that they exorcized the demon and Derek went back to living a normal life, upset over the loss of his girlfriend.
Artemis dropped out of college and began to train herself to hunt these things with the help of her cousin and Travis. Apollo followed shortly there after. Together, they moved to Los Angeles together to be closer to their cousin and to get away from the rest of their family who didn’t understand the pain that Artemis had gone through. Ever since Cindy’s death, Artemis has been even more emotionally closed off and abrasive; to her it didn’t feel like she lost her best friend but it felt like she lost a part of her body. She has also been hunting ever since that point.
