personality
Castiel appears stoic and his facial expressions are often hard to decipher. Though, hanging with Dean has loosened his emotions and he has been known to smile. Despite his cold appearance, Castiel is very curious about humans, and often sympathetic. Since he hasn’t been around humans for so many centuries, or for very long, he likes to surround himself with God’s creatures and study them.
He partners up with Uriel, but often disagrees with him, playing the good cop to the bad cop. Unlike Uriel, Castiel cares for humans, and would rather save them instead of destroy. Rarely angered, Castiel will put his foot down when he feels that enough is enough and become an intimidating individual. Though he is a being of higher power, he has questions himself about his Lord; as if a child wondering about his own purpose with his father.
abilities
As an angel of the Lord, Castiel has the ability to heal; not only himself, but humans as well. No mortal weapon, and many enchanted items, can kill him. Also, he can save or damn people to hell. Castiel has the ability to sense who is a sinner, or saint, human or demon, and sometimes purposely change a person’s emotions. Like a spirit, Castiel can appear and disappear to any location at will. If he wants Dean, he’ll find Dean.
His true form is powerful, and bright, enough to cause blindness to any unfortunate soul who happens to view him outside of his host and his voice is powerful enough to cause the ground to shake. Though much more difficult, he is able to bend space and time, sending himself and others into the past, but not the future. (Even he doesn’t know what the future holds.)
background
Two thousand years ago, angels came down to Earth to protect humanity from demonic forces that’d broken the gates of Hell and invaded. Castiel had been one of those warriors sent by God to fight against the armies of Hell. Thousands of human lives had been lost in a bloody war, and even the lives of many angels had been taken. Castiel had been victimized to loosing some of his closest brethren by watching them slayed to the hands of demons, fallen angels, and Lucifer himself.
Those that had witnessed this holy war from the viewpoint of mere mortals, wrote about it in a book and could only stand back and watch as Heaven and Hell dueled, hoping that the right side would win. Fortunately, the angels had succeeded in vanquishing Lucifer to the deepest realm of Hell and created over six hundred seals that would guarantee his visitation rights to Earth were not permitted. Those that followed Lucifer followed shortly after him.
The angels returned home to their father in the sky and once again left Earth in the care of humans, but always kept a watch from above. Centuries passed and the stories lived on, some becoming so altered from the truth, it was hard to tell what had really happened, but one positive side to these fabrications is that Lucifer had been long forgotten; thought of a mere fairy tale then actuality. And that’s how they wanted it to stay.
The present. A.D. Those obsessed with the Occult have foolishly contacted the other side and unwillingly become possessed by hellish forces. Demons have successfully crawled out of Hell and breached Earth’s surfaces where they’ve taken a human host as their own. But that was just the beginning. Once one demon had been free, more rose to power. Soon, Earth was once again overflowing with demons and Heaven needed to intervene.
A man of great faith prayed nightly to his God hoping for peace. In months he would be dead from an incurable disease and there was nothing he could do to prevent it. He kept it a secret from everyone he loved and cared about, not allowing even himself to believe he was going to die. An angel appeared to him one night; days before his inedible death. His name was Castiel, and in exchange for his body, he sent the man’s soul to Heaven.
Months prior, a young man named Dean Winchester had been sent to Hell for sacrificing his own life to save his brother’s. But unfortunate for Dean’s selfless act, his brother was slowly traveling down a dark future that threatened the fate of Earth. Castiel’s first mission from his Lord was to retrieve Dean from perdition and inform him of his brother’s devilish acts. The more Sam used his demonic powers, the more he’d slip over to the darkside. If Dean didn’t stop him, then Castiel would have no choice but to destroy him.
One of Lucifer’s commanding officers, the Fallen Angel Azazel, had corrupted a few of God’s creatures and planned a devious endgame which the forces of Heaven are still in the dark about. Sam had been the chosen one out of those children and with him in command, Lucifer would be set free.
Though he was destroyed, by none other than Dean, it appeared that Earth was safe and Lucifer would remain confined. But another one of Lucifer’s higher ups, Lilith, roamed free, and took control from the impending Armageddon and began breaking the seals they’d created two thousand years ago. And she only needed to break sixty six. It is Castiel’s job to ensure that hellish forces do not seize control, and Sam, the boy with demon blood, remains human.
The past is slowly repeating itself and if he doesn’t act fast, billions of lives will be lost and Earth will be nothing more than Hell’s paradise.
